36 people — not somewhere in the news. In just six months, in a single region — Poltava

In the past six months, 36 people have been identified here as victims of human trafficking and various forms of exploitation. Behind each number are years of life in which there was no choice. One of these stories is that of Iryna (name changed).

For over 10 years, she worked in agriculture without a contract, salary, or any guarantees. Her “payment” was the promise of housing, which never materialized. Hard physical labor, complete dependence on the employer, and a constant feeling that there was no other choice — this was her reality…

This case was identified thanks to the systematic work of the CO “Light of Hope”/NGO “Svitlo Nadii” team: identifying victims, assessing needs, and supporting people who have experienced human trafficking and exploitation. Iryna was identified as a victim and referred to comprehensive assistance — focusing on safety, restoration of rights, and meeting basic needs.

The war has only increased vulnerability. Loss of housing, employment, and social connections forces people to accept dangerous arrangements that later turn into a trap — often silent and lasting for years.

In cooperation with the Counter–Trafficking NGO Coalition, the “Svitlo Nadii” team works daily to ensure that these signals are not lost and that people receive protection, support, and a chance to reclaim their lives.
